Database Management Systems in Ecommerce

PREFACE

Every now and then, we always use apps to do or buy our things every day, but we always ignore how the apps work. In e-commerce, there is always a database that is included in the apps itself. Without a database, e-commerce will fail to do its job, and the customer order will be desultory. That’s why every company, such as Amazon, Tokopedia, Shoppe, and many more, always has programmers in them. But before we talk about why databases are used in many e-commerce, we should explain both databases and e-commerce.

DISCUSSION

In general, a database is a bunch of structured information or data, and these data will be stored in a computer; the information or the data itself can be varied. It can be the data of the customer, the data of the items, the data of the orders, and many more. Usually, the database is manipulated and controlled by a Database Management System (DBMS). Database Management System (DBMS) itself is a system used to store or save, get, and execute queries on data. DBMS serves to join between the user and the database, enabling the user to create, modify, update, and delete the data on the database. DBMS can be found in apps like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), MySQL, Microsoft Access, and Oracle. DBMS can be used for everybody, both for small companies and big companies. Once the DBMS is installed, the company can monitor the work progress of the workers within the app.

The function of the database can be varied. First, the function of the database is to group a bunch of data enabling the user to have an easier time creating or modifying the data. The second function of a database is to prevent duplicating data, if the data is duplicated, it will cause an error on those duplicated data. The third function of a database is that the database itself can be the solution to storing a lot of data, especially data that is important to the company.

Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce) is defined as the process of buying and selling products, services, and information that is carried out electronically by utilizing a computer network. One of the networks used is the Internet. The development of information technology, especially the internet, is a driving factor for the development of E-Commerce.

The Internet is a global network that unites computer networks around the world, thus enabling communication and interaction between one another throughout the world. By connecting the company’s computer network to the internet, companies can establish business relationships with business partners or consumers more efficiently. Until now, the internet is the ideal infrastructure to run E-Commerce, so the term E-Commerce has become synonymous with running a business on the Internet.

The exchange of information in E-Commerce is carried out in digital format so that the need for sending data in printed form can be eliminated. By using a computer system that is interconnected through a telecommunications network, business transactions can be carried out automatically and in a short time. produce information needed for business transactions that is available when needed.

By doing business electronically, companies can reduce the costs that must be incurred for the purpose of sending information. The transaction process that takes place quickly also results in the company’s productivity. By using information technology, E-Commerce can be used as a solution to assist companies in developing their companies and dealing with business pressures. The use of E-Commerce can increase the cost efficiency and productivity of the company so as to increase the company’s ability to compete.

The presence of the internet, which, although still a new industry in its growth phase, is still changing and full of uncertainty, has strengthened the belief in the importance of the role of technology in achieving the company’s financial goals through modification and efficiency of business processes, namely by utilizing E-commerce. internet commerce or Ecommerce or immerse, which basically all the terms above have the same meaning. These terms mean buying or selling electronically, and this activity is carried out on the internet network. E-commerce can also mean the best advertising, sales, and service support using a webshop 24 hours a day for all its customers.

In E-commerce, databases are built using SQL (if relational), and all the data is related to each other. It is similar to spreadsheets which use tables, columns, and rows to organize data. For example, an E-commerce company often uses either MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL and many more. Even though there are many types of databases, E-commerce sellers often use a relational database design that is centered around the customer’s table, orders table, and products table. They can also add additional tables as required, such as categories, product reviews, and many more.

Other than relational databases, large online retailers like Walmart or eBay use non-relational databases, or NoSQL databases, to power their systems. NoSQL has the advantage of providing performance and scalability to manage large unstructured data, such as user data and images. There are many examples of databases built, such as CouchBase, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, and many more.

In conclusion, Databases and E-commerce are connected. Apart from being both connected to the internet, in E-commerce, there is also a database in it. With the database server, sales website, or e-commerce product marketing, companies can more easily handle data processing. This E-commerce-based sales system, it reduces the cost of renting a shophouse due to internet-based or online sales. As in the example above with a DBMS, Once the DBMS is installed, the company can monitor the work progress of the workers within the app. The database will also learn the buyer’s algorithm, so the database can learn the habits of buyers and can also improve the relationship between sellers and buyers.
