Information System is a system consisting of technology, media, procedures, and human resources in which forms an organized system. This combination of technology and human resource works to get information that will later be used to support management. In accordance with its understanding, information system are combination that forms a system to obtain information needed to support a business or organization, especially in decision making. Now we will discuss the role of system information in organization.
In its definition that information system are combine of technology and human resource to get informations to help organizations. And of course information system has an important role. What are the important role of information system in an organization? There are 6 major roles. There is managing operations, supporting customer interactions, decisions making, collaborating on teams, gaining competitive advantage, and improving individual productivity.
First is managing operations. Organizations that can manage operations management such as operations and design are successful organizations. In this case the importance of an information system is used to tracking the payment of employee’s salary, tax payments, benefits, and timesheet because they are operations management. Not only that, information systems also design systems so that the system runs well and does not fall apart. For example, in the field of transportation, companies need information systems to manage routes.
The second is supporting customer interaction. Interactions with customers, clients, taxpayers, and others who are in organizations either internal or external who want their services or products are fundamental processes. Therefore, an information system is needed to create a CRM system. This system makes and maintains the relationship of all processes. For example, retail stores need good sales systems. The sales system is useful for identifying all payment activities, and updating to the database. When there is an error in the sales system, non-savvy buyers will leave the store and look for other retail stores. To anticipate this, web-based shopping is made.
The third is decision making. Information systems help organizations make decisions. This decision is used to advance the organization. For example, a restaurant makes determining the price of food on their menu. If the price is too expensive then the restaurant will be empty of visitors. Conversely, if the price is too cheap, the restaurant will suffer a loss.
The forth is collaborating on teams. Teamwork must also be considered in the organization. If there is miscommunication, everything can be messy. So from that information system can make it easier for people to work together wherever and whenever.
The fifth is gaining competitive advantage. In gaining competitive advantage, information systems can make an organization superior to other organizations. This can be achieved by information systems by developing applications and creating innovative applications. In addition, information systems help to create a vision. Vision is formed according to what the organization can achieve in the future.
And the last is improving individual productivity. With the development of technology, there are many tools that we can use to get productivity at work. Like a gadget that can do many things like e-mail, browsing, etc. However, too much of the ability of a gadget to do anything makes us not productive. So from that choose the gadget features carefully and according to the job.
