Data and Knowledge Management
In the modern era, the development of information technology is growing rapidly. Information technology supports managing various existing data. The managed data will become information that can be disseminated for certain purposes. Data and data management is very important for many people, especially for an organization. Data and knowledge management discusses the process by which data can be converted into information and then into knowledge.
Managing data
All technologies require data. Data must be accurate, clear, concise and concise. To get the accuracy of the data, we often have difficulty accessing it. Another thing is when a company gives access to many parties to edit the available data. This actually creates problems with the accuracy of the data because there will be many changes every time. So data governance is available, to overcome various problems by managing data. Data governance is an approach to managing the information of all companies. In this case the organization does not make uncertain decisions. Using master data management strategies. With this the company is able to store, maintain, exchange, and synchronize data that is consistent, accurate and timely, which will later become important data for the company.
Database
Using a database minimizes the problems that arise in the previous method. In the database, storing and accessing data will be organized into a set of software programs – a database management system – providing data access to all users. This will ensure data security as it has been collected in the database. Even though it contains a large amount of data, the database is neatly arranged so that it is easy to find the data we need.
Big data
Big data is a collection of lots of complex data that is difficult to manage using ordinary database management. Big data can reveal difficult data patterns and produce information that was previously hidden or illegible. Usually those who use the big data method for their data management systems are only large companies because the costs required are relatively more expensive. Big data is also often used in police or government purposes. For example, to reveal a crime.
Data warehouses and data marts
Data warehouses and data marts support to analyze a business. Data warehouses are a repository of historical data that has been organized in making organizational decisions. Because this method is also relatively expensive, data warehouses are only used by large companies. Data marts is an inexpensive, small capacity version of the data warehouse designed for a small business. Data marts can be accessed faster than data warehouses because the amount of data contained in them is smaller.
Knowledge management system
purpose of this method is to help organizations to create the most effective data available. It also helps to cope with rapid changes in data and in determining the most effective way to execute a business strategy. To increase this access requires knowledge from company workers. The problem is that workers must be willing to provide their personal data.
Of course, in managing this data, it must be properly so that later it becomes fact-based information and can help for various jobs. Of the methods that have the risk of problems in data management, of course, will still exist. But how each method has advantages and disadvantages is also designed according to needs.
