PROBLEMS IN OPERATIONAL DASHBOARD DESIGN ON PT. TRANSPORTASI JAKARTA

Living in the city of Jakarta with high mobility and high residence density, private mode of transportation is never an option. When using private modes of transportation, we can see the effect on everyday traffic condition in the rush hour time. In many metropolitans cities, there are integrated public transit options available. In many years behind Jakarta needs the mass transportation for its citizen. This poses a problem for the economy and the industry that being affected by logging road that slows productivity hence slowing city’s economy. In 2004, the city purposed a new solution to city’s traffic problem. The city purposed a BRT to slice through city traffic. BRT or bus rapid transit is a type of mass transportation that are both cheap, fast and easy to implement.

The users in this case commuters were mainly people who work in the business district in South Jakarta and Central Jakarta. They usually took the bus from terminal or stations. Before there are Transjakarta buses they were using regular buses that run on the same route. So there is still not many people moving from their car and motorcycle to Transjakarta bus because it only has one corridor.

Fast forward to two thousand and sixteen Transjakarta is now 12 years old still serving the greater Jakarta with twelve corridors spread around Jakarta. According to Transjakarta there are three hundred and twenty thousand users per day as of 2015. But as the largest and longest BRT system in South-East Asia, Transjakarta is far from perfect.

There are many problems that present in the system. The most important and urgent problem to solve is fleet. For bus rapid transit to succeed they need to be a certain fleet size. By the name of the system, there is one word that needs to be underlined, rapid. In any rapid mass transportation, the service needs to be predictable and frequent. Having a frequent and predictable service will ensure reliability to the user. But because of the limit of the fleet that Transjakarta has there always an uncertainty to the service. Combine with the unsterile bus lane makes matters worst.

In an effort to migrate people from private vehicles to public transportation especially Transjakarta bus, there are must be advantages using public transportation. Private vehicle still will be the fastest option available. But in the big city like Jakarta with not much road and infrastructure to cope with all the private vehicle, it will be impossible to do. The solution is clear, which is to move people from their private cars and motorcycle to public transportation.

Right now in this world, the most efficient mass transit is railway based. But because of Jakarta limited railways and mass rapid transit and light rapid transit are still under construction and will not be able to operate for at least next two or five years mass rapid transportation that already has many corridors and running is Transjakarta. Even when mass rapid transit and light rapid transit is operational one or two lines will not give a big effect in the city traffic problem. In order for the rail-based system to operate and slice through Jakarta traffic efficiently, there is need for multiple lines and integration.

To make a whole system better in serving their passenger the management team must have known how to improve according to the field data. The field data that comes every day must be calculated and analyzed daily. The main problem is that the management team still doesn’t have a dashboard tool to see their data. The management team still use table and small summary that being distributed to a group chat services. This is a big problem because the management doesn’t know how to compare data because it is very difficult to do so in a table and a text. This is why the team still act slowly to changes.
